Nowhere to Run
Nowhere to Run
Place of Refuge Series (Book 2)
by Amy Wallace
About the book:
What happens when the promise to protect and serve forces a police officer to do the unthinkable...?
Police Officer Ashley Walters is being stalked. Her wedding plans are interrupted by an attack on her fiancé, and a detective is shot protecting her. Ashley is forced to flee for her own safety and the lives of those she loves.
Ashley finds refuge in a Mennonite community in Shipshewana, Indiana. But even in a peaceful town among gentle people she cherishes, danger stalks. All she has left is faith. But when faith fails, what survives?
Readers who love suspense coupled with the simplicity of the Mennonite life will eagerly devour book two in the dramatic Place of Refuge series.
My Review:
This is the second book to the series. The background of the characters was brief and left me a little lost as to how everyone knew each other and what was going on. I would recommend you read the first book, Hiding in Plain Sight, Place of Refuge Series #1, before you pick this one up.
Nowhere to Run is a story about faith. Faith is something so many people struggle with. Will we choose to do it all in our own strength or trust in the One who created the universe? This is the battle Ashley Walters is facing.
As I read through the story I felt Ashley had no faith at all. It was her friends telling her to have faith and to put all her trust in God, which she wasn't willing to do until all else failed. I believe Ashley had the same issue in the first book. Maybe in the third book her faith will finally become solid. I really liked the fact that everyone she was surrounded by was pointing her in the right direction-to God.
The story was not as suspenseful as I thought it was going to be which was probably a good thing since it doesn't take much for me to become scared. I was never on the edge of my seat while reading this story, and lacked the "Just one more chapter" feeling keeping me up all night. However, I was totally clueless on who was stalking her and how they were going to catch him.
