The Bare Naked Truth--book review & Blog tour

The Bare Naked Truth
Dating, Waiting, and God's Purity Plan
by Bekah Hamrick Martin

About the Book:

The Bare Naked Truth about Waiting - The Truth About Sex and Waiting ... Uncovered Purity. Sex. Boys. Waiting. There's something about those words that makes everything complex in a heartbeat, and raises more questions than answers. Is there something wrong with me if I don't kiss a boy after a date? Or am I doomed if I DID? What if waiting is just a one-way trip to life as a crazy cat woman? And what if I tend to, um, think about a certain boy in a certain way? It seems that the lady at church and your friends have two very different opinions on the subject. And 'Your Budding Womanhood: Staying a Beautiful Flower for Jesus' just isn't cutting it.

Bekah Hamrick Martin knows the waiting game isn't easy or straight-forward. In The Bare Naked Truth, she lays everything on the table---including some embarrassing moments---as she explores the honest, naked truth behind what God means by purity. With additional entries from popular authors, you'll see the bare naked approach to waiting isn't always easy, but it's worth the risk.

My Review:

I don't know about other parents, but I for one have a hard time speaking about personal matters such as sex and relationships. I requested to be a part of this blog tour and review this book because I have a daughter who is quickly growing up. I want to be able to give the best advice I have to offer. I want to make sure that when the time comes I have plenty of resources for her along with making sure that I can competently answer all of her questions. Will I be able to ensure that she will choose the purity path? No, but I'm going to make sure I get great resources to her so she can make the best decision for her. I am looking forward to reading this book with her (when the time comes).

Author Bekah H. Martin wrote a fantastic book! She is humorous, insightful, and flat out honest. Girls of all (appropriate) ages will have no problem making a connection with her through her writing.

There are a good number of guest writers in The Bare Naked Truth sharing their personal stories with us. Some were abused, others stuck with the purity path, while others did as they pleased until Jesus showed them how much they were worth to Him. It is comforting to see that we are not alone in this walk of life. That there are people going through the same struggles as we are: Should I wait for marriage? How can I fill this void? Does anyone understand? But it is how we choose to approach and overcome them. Will we choose to run into the arms of others, or into the arms of God?

At the end of each chapter there is a fun quiz to find out how you rate on the topic that was covered in the chapter. It took me back to my teen years. After finding out how you rate, there are a couple journal questions to dig a bit deeper into your heart. Also in the back of the book you are offered ways to connect with her, the guest writers, and other young ladies who are there to encourage you and be encouraged themselves. I love each of these "helps".

I believe this is going to be a much needed resource for my daughter when she becomes a teenager. As a parent I can only influence her so much. She will one day make her decision, and I truly hope she will choose God's best plan for her!

***Thank you Litfuse Publicity Group and Zondervan Publishers for the free book in exchange for my honest review, and for the opportunity to participate in the blog tour.***
